Whether you’re just starting college or you’re moving to a new apartment, finding your perfect home-away-from-home can be really exciting and overwhelming at the same time.
There are so many great options for USC student housing, and you’re probably wondering where to start your search. The first thing to know is that off-campus housing is a lot better than the dorms in terms of privacy and amenities. Finding housing near USC doesn’t have to be hard with all the options that are available.
With that in mind, I’ve compiled a list of the most popular options for USC off-campus housing.
The Lorenzo is a beautiful USC student housing community located in downtown LA, about half a mile from campus. The Lorenzo apartments offer you the benefits of living off-campus — more space, privacy and unique amenities — just 10 minutes away from all your classes.
Apartments come fully furnished, with washers and dryers in the unit. The price per room is around $1200 to share a one bedroom with a roommate. You do not get your own private room. If you want your own private room, the price will be $2400 or higher.
Students particularly love all the amenities found at this USC off-campus housing community. If you live in The Lorenzo, you get to enjoy the community’s sand volleyball court, indoor basketball courts, a karaoke room, four swimming pools, two gyms and a restaurant.
The Tuscany Apartments is another great USC student housing option. Located right next to campus on Figueroa Street, the community offers apartments of all sizes, from one up to four bedrooms.
What makes this a USC off-campus housing favorite is its prime location above hotspots like Chick-fil-A and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.
The apartments offer plenty of amenities that students also love. Inside the fully furnished units you’ll find large closets and balconies. Other amenities include assigned parking, barbecue stations, study lounges, laundry facilities, a pool and hot tub, and a gym. Living with Tuscany can be very expensive though. To share a room in Tuscany, it is $1400 - $1600 per month depending on the floor plan. You don’t get your own private room and bathroom, it is all shared.
The Shrine Collection
Located just one block from campus and Greek Row, The Shrine Collection offers newly renovated 1 to 3 bedroom apartments.
The apartments come fully furnished with a study desk and twin XL bed in the bedrooms. Amenities include a gym, a courtyard, barbecue grills and fire pits. The price to share a room and bathroom in The Shrine is around $1,100 without utilities and wifi included in the price. With those expenses factored in, you’re paying around $1,200 per month to live in a shared bedroom.
Students love this USC off-campus housing option because certain apartments have direct access to the outdoor courtyard.
The Shrine Collection’s sister property Element features two-story townhomes just a short walk from Greek Row. The townhomes have a downtown LA loft feel, with a wrapping staircase connecting the two levels.
Students love all the rooming options available there. You can share a room with a friend, or rent a private one for yourself. If you’re looking for a roommate, the company will help you find one after you sign the lease. This housing option can be a bit pricey. To share a room with a friend, it’s upward of $1200 - $1400 per month without utilities and wifi included. If you want a private room, it will be around $2200 or more per month.
Other features include individual remote-controlled A/C in every bedroom, laundry in-unit, pool, gym and poolside fire pit.
University Gateway Apartments
The University Gateway Apartments is yet another popular USC student housing option near campus.
It’s located north of the main campus on Figueroa Street, near the Shrine Auditorium. The apartments come equipped with twin or full-sized beds, a night stand, dresser, dual closets and a stylish kitchen with appliances. Gateway is around $1200 per month to share a room. It’s a bit older than the other housing options near USC campus.
University Gateway is also home to unique amenities like stand-up tanning domes, a sundeck and a 24-hour coffee bar that students particularly love during finals week.
West 27th Place Apartments
West 27th Place Apartments are another popular off-campus housing option for students. It features a full gym, pool, jacuzzi, and several quiet study rooms on each floor of the building. West 27th Place is closer to campus than the Lorenzo apartments but farther than The Shrine apartments.
Students like living at West 27th Place because of the pool and large common areas to gather with friends. The price to lease from West 27th Place is around $1400 per month to share a bedroom. The units come furnished with full laundry inside but utilities and parking are not included in the rent price. Parking can range anywhere from $100-$150 per month and there are limited spaces available.
If you want to get a private bedroom and ideally a private bathroom near USC, you should give co-living a try. Co-living is modernized communal living, where like-minded students rent a private room within an apartment shared with roommates.
Tripalink is the only co-living community near USC that offers fully furnished units, utilities included in your rent, and tons of community benefits. In fact, Tripalink’s apartments are by far the best options for off-campus housing near USC. To give some context, Tripalink offers private rooms with an attached bathroom from just $998 per month with all utilities included. For that same price of around $1000, you can only get a shared room and shared bathroom in other apartment complexes near USC.
The company has several large homes with up to 28 bedrooms on University Avenue, as well as everything from studios to 6-bedroom apartments available in the USC area. The best part is they’re a lot more affordable than other USC student housing options in the area such as the ones mentioned above.
If you're looking for more personal space and privacy without having to sacrifice finding a community, you’ll love living with Tripalink. At Tripalink, you don’t have to share a bedroom with a roommate. You can get your own private bedroom for an affordable price.
