What a local gem! One of the closest coffee shops in the heart of U District, Café Allegro is a hidden, cozy coffee shop and is Seattle’s oldest espresso bar. Customers of all sorts, and especially University of Washington students describe this cafe as cozy, artsy, and utterly delicious. The coffee here is really good – with Cappuccinos and Lattes both well-made with just the right amount of ice and cream too. If you’re anything like me, this sounds good right about now. Established in 1987, Araya’s Place Vegan Thai rests right along University Way and is loved by many! This restaurant is in a lovely courtyard with seasonal outdoor dining. Offering great vegan, gluten free, and vegetarian options, the vibe here is friendly and the food is consistently good. Everything’s delicious, from their Crispy Spring Rolls stuffed with vegetables and served with sweet and sour sauce to their pot stickers and tom yum soup. Big Time brewery is an easy favorite in Seattle among neighborhood locals and UW students. With a great little street patio setup and conveniently located in the University District, visitors line up for their top beefy burger options or tasty, cheesy pizza pies. Recommendations include the 7 oz Big Time Burger – topped with grilled onions, beer cheese spread, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and their Big-Time sauce. Schultz's Bar and Grill is a MUST on any trip. This very popular spot for University of Washington students is a cozy but spacious restaurant on the Ave and is known as the “soul of U Distinct.” Pop in during their happy hour deals, and try stellar food choices from their cheesesteaks, to their delicious gumbo to their shoestring fries. We hear their hamburgers are good too with friendly staff that are more than accommodating for any group size.  This one comes highly recommended and, well… we highly recommend this one to you!
